My deepest apologies to the occasional visitor to what is now a ghost town of a blog. Being a natural procrastinator and a lazy girl, i really havent been updating much.

Nonetheless I felt inspired (ok bored enough) tonight to put up another post =)

This one's about STRONG LIPS.

Of late, ok not really of late, but strong lips have been quite a trend for the past few seasons. YSL launched their black lipgloss awhile back, followed by Lancome, and recently, MAC launched their Style Black collection featuring black tinted glosses, jet black lippies and a gorgeous deep purple one.

Well and good if you're gonna be wearing these for halloween, or for a really glamourous event. But what of the average gal on an average day out?

Here's my attempt at a strong lip, or at least stronger than what I'd usually do. Im ok with bright reds, hot pinks, peachy corals, but this is my first attempt at a deep maroon. Turned out pretty fine.

However, you know that rule of thumb where you do a neutral eye with a strong lip? Thing is, for someone with small chinese eyes, it's not very flattering to have big lips and lightly done eyes. So I paired this up with a slightly smokey shadow. I do think as long as you dont do a full smokey eye, you will end up looking bold but polished. (and without the beady eyes)

Just make sure you head out the door with a lotsa confidence and a big dose of attitude. Cos with bold lips, you can be sure you'll draw a few stares =)

ok i know this is kinda random on a makeup sorta journal, but..

is it just me or do these look like gummi kids instead of gummi bears?

I was steadily munching my way through a pack of Haribo's Kiddies' Super Mix when I paused a moment before i decapitated a gummi bear..

only to realize that:

a) it's not exactly a fat bear
b) it doesn't have bear ears
c) fuck it has a face
d) it REALLY looks like a little kid.

i kid you not.

i couldn't quite capture the details on most of the colours but the purple in particular stands out.

Baked Blushes in MAC MSF Style!

Im mad on baking things. Cakes, cookies, souffles, meringue, pie, you name it ive probably baked it before. including savories like baked fish and chicken.

SO after all this baking, i decided it was time to proceed to baking cosmetics. hoho.

Ookie so awhile back i swapped with Mag from www.makeupstash.com for a MAC empty MSF compact.

I wanted it for a very special reason.

After rebaking a broken MAC Naked You msf, i decided that it was time to try baked blushes!

Alas I procrastinated for REAL long to get the mixing and baking done. and even longer to get the pictures up, but here they are!!

Quite pretty isn't it!

It's a melange of 3 different blush colours: EDM new car smell(the peach), EDM dvr saturday (the soft pink), and a Mica powder mix (the bright pink)

and here it is up close:

and here you can see how nice and sort of shimmery they are. that's why i picked these three colours!

nope i have not tried marbling yet. it seems a rather more difficult technique that would no doubt require me to get pigment all over my fingers. haha. so i'm being lazy for now. lol.

hopefully i'll be able to get my hands on MORE empty msf compacts to experiment with!!!

Blue Eyes and Long Lashes

For some reason, I'm inspired to post up a blue eyes fotd pic.

Please excuse the bad photography, and the unruly eyebrows as that was the week before they got threaded.

Anyway, as you can see, lash growth serum + a great mascara REALLY works wonders! No need for falsies!

So what have I been up to of late?

i got the coastal scents empty blush palette awhile back. I very much prefer this to the mac blush palette, not only cos it holds 8 blushes, but also cos it comes with empty pans!

So ive been pressing my own blushes, and even a highlight mosiac powder!

This is a mix of mineral bronzer, and some highlighting mac pigments such as vanilla and fairylite, with physicians formula eyeshadow pearls

Everyday minerals make it count blush

Everyday minerals snuggle blush

pressing the blushes helps me to store them more efficiently, plus it makes the loose mineral blushes much more convenient to bring out for touchups.

I'll put up another post on what I use since it's quite impossible to bring a pan out without it being nicked into pieces.

this is the eyeko cream that's been raved about in a number of beauty forums.

Ive been using this for quite awhile now and i LOVE THIS STUFF!

it gives a really lovely glow when mixed in with liquid foundation/bb cream, and works great as a highlighter when used alone on cheekbones. gooood stuff.

CHEAP too! just 5 GBP shipped ANYWHERE in the world.

i'll give a more detailed review at a later date when i can muster the effort haha.

Im sure many of you out there have the same problem with lippies that i do; mainly that it doesnt last very long before a touchup is in order.

Well, loreal has not so recently launched their inFALLIBLE lipstick/lipcolour range, and that seems like a godsend to solve this problem! They only have the lipstick range in singapore, but the range of colours is a tad sad. Nonetheless after swatching a few times and realising that the swatches took FOREVER to get washed/rubbed/scratched off my skin, i made a command decision and decided to get the lip colours from the US.

I got about 4 colours and a total of 8 pcs. (haha backups) my mom loves this product too!

Basically it's a two step lippie. You have the liquid lipcolour with a swab applicator, and a topcoat moisturizing gloss. The lipcolour itself is like a coat that is painted on, then left to dry. Once dry it will become more or less indelible. However, ive found that it takes some practice getting the coat right. Ideally, you want a really thin even coat, because of the coat is too thick, it starts to flake off later, much like how too thick paint tends to flake off walls haha!

The gloss smells vanilla-ish, and is really high shine! however, this has to be reapplied quite frequently to maintain the shine and prevent the lips from drying out. Sort of like slicking lip balm on actually, and indeed, lipbalm is a good substitute should you run out of the gloss stick.

Some folks like to use a separate lip brush to apply rather than the applicator. In this case, i would not recommend that for two reasons. Firstly, by the time you pickup the lipcolour off the swab applicator, then spread on your lips, the liquid lipcolour would have started drying and will become gloopy. Secondly, this results in a thicker than ideal coat. This causes the finished coat to pucker and wrinkle into every crease you have on your lips. not a pretty sight. Believe me i made that mistake on my first application. The swab applicator is flexible, slightly pointy at the tip, and is good enough on its own. thus, USE IT.

From my personal experience, i rarely have to reapply the lipcolour coat. It only happens when i have a dry lip day and the colour(and my skin) starts to flake off. For those emergencies, i use a tissue to gently buff off the remaining colour before reapplying. This helps me to get an even coat. If not, this has lasted through countless hours of chatting, drinks, dimsum, and even soup! I wish they made more colours!

Ok so swatches! I bought 4 colours, here they are in the following order from left to right: Crimson, Merlot, Mulberry and Rosebud

As you can see, the gloss coat does make quite a substantial difference! Then again, if you want a more matte finish, just use plain old lipbalm instead! The extra moisturising coat is absolutely essential imho, as the colour itself is pretty drying. Additionally i'd recommend scrubbing your lips prior to use, as this is a lipcolour, and will be extremely unforgiving towards peeling uneven skin on the lips!

So what's my fave colour? i'd say a toss up between rosebud and crimson! Im a bright colours kinda gal. My mom loves mulberry and merlot though. Also, if you look carefully, rosebud does have a bit of a glittery sheen to it so it looks much prettier than the others!

Do check out this range of lippies on ebay or at www.drugstore.com if you can. They do have a great range of colours, and I cant think of why anyone would NOT wanna wear these given that they are truly smudgeproof and kissproof (believe me i've tried!) haha

Oh and a final note, have some baby oil or industrial strength waterproof makeup remover to remove the residue at the end of the day!

how do you find out?

here's a product saving tip every makeup/skincare user should know!

As we get through a tube/bottle of skincare/makeup there will come a point where we simply can't get anymore product out by squeezing/shaking the bottle yes?

However, there's MUCH more product left in the tube! This is especially so for thicker textured products such as creams or gels.

So as i was finishing up my tube of clinique all about eyes rich, I decided to take a few pix for you all to show you JUST HOW MUCH product can be salvaged from an "empty" tube.

Here's what to do.

1. clean a pair of scissors, as well as a spatula with an alcohol soaked cotton pad
2. carefully cut the end of the tube open
3. using the spatula, scoop/scrape out the product clinging to the sides of the tube
4. if the tube is quite long, cut it into sections and clean out each section
5. dont forget to clean out the interior of the nozzle of the tube

And thus, i managed to salvage almost a full 5g jar of my clinique!! It's a pretty tiny tube too!

I try to do this for most of my products, especially the more expensive ones which are oh so precious right.

If you search on youtube you can also find vids of people cutting open tubes of urban decay primer potion to do the same!

Sadly though, you can only do this for tubes or bottles which are made of pliable soft plastic material. This is because the glass or hard pvc ones are difficult to cut open (doh) and may splinter/flake off, and you really dont want glass or plastic chips in your product right! (tres exfoliate anyone? haha)

This is also why i prefer to buy products in jars, but the large majority of skincare stuff comes in bottles or tubes. Ah well.

Of lashes and pretty peepers

We makeup aficionados all know that there's nothing like a set of luscious lashes to brighten up even the smallest and beadiest of eyes. Well, yours truly has a set of said peepers thus, lashes are something I spend a fair bit of time on.

now right up let me say that i DO NOT LIKE fake lashes. I find it too thick, and plain unnatural. Not to mention the freaky doll effect. haha.

So what do I do given my naturally sparse Chinese lashes? I use two fantastic products to give me nice lashes. What are they?

Alrighty first up is a good lash growth product. So far i've only tried ONE, and I've never had reason to try another cos it is seriously GOOD STUFF.

It's the Talika Lipocils Eyelash Gel

It claims to promote visible eyelash growth within 28 days, but honestly, Ive seen results in about 2 weeks! Seriously! Using it twice a day got me nice long lashes. Not only did I get longer lashes, i also grew more new baby lashes, so that they've become thicker. This really made a difference to my lashes! However one thing i must caution about the usage technique. The package directs you to apply with the wand including the base of the lashes. Now it's a pretty big wand so it's really impossible for you to get the base of your lashes, which is where the stuff needs to go if you wanna grow new lashes. What I did though, is to dab a bit of the gel onto my little finger, and smear it onto the roots, then use the wand to coat the lashes.

One problem with this product though, is that it is rather difficult to find, not to mention pricey at $68 for about 10ml. BUT one tube will last you ages! Ive used it on and off for about a year already, and there's still loads to go in the tube.

NOW my 2nd most favoured lash product has to be the Tweezerman Sepralash lash comb.

I regard this product as a MUST HAVE when applying mascara, because it allows me to really pack on the product without getting clumpy lashes which make my lashes look even sparser! What I like about this product is that the teeth are very sharp, and the space between the teeth are very small, thus when using it to comb my lashes after mascara application, it really fans and separates the lashes. This way, i can slap on about 3-4 coats of mascara for va va voom lashes which are long and lush, without getting clumps. The well fanned out lashes also look a heck load more natural than falsies!

The only problem with this comb is that sometimes mascara tends to get stuck in the tines, and when that happens, it stops functioning properly. ive heard of people using toothbrushes and even dental floss to get the mascara out. For me, all i use is a piece of cotton wool soaked in makeup remover, or the piece of cotton soaked with toner to get the mascara off. ive found that the key is to get the mascara off when it's STILL WET. Once it hardens you probably gotta use cleansing oil and and toothbrush to get it off.

Also, this product is pretty pricey for a small lash comb. Just so you get an idea, this measures approx 7cm from head to tail, and the tines arent even 1cm long! However, the tines are plated with gold, so it makes me feel a whole lot better cos i definitely dont want a metal with rusting potential anywhere near my eye.

I got it for about $15sgd shipped from ebay USA exclusive of forward mailing courtesy of a friend. However, I find that this more or less would last me a lifetime. ive used it for about half a year now and it's as good as new!

THUS. i have one extra piece to sell! (haha typically i got an extra just in case you know. but I realized i dont need it!)

I also know there are many more affordable dupes or similar products out there. In particular, coastal scents makes a nice lash comb.

this is a pic i took when one of my spreers ordered it. no worries as you can see it has not been removed from the packaging or anything, I just wanted a pic to let you guys get an idea of what the coastal scents one looks like. Well, it has nice sharp metal tines too, but they seem more widely spaced. At $3.89 USD this is WAY WAY cheaper than the Tweezerman one. HOWEVER, the metal seems to be the type which easily oxidises, and the tines arent perfectly straight. This made me decide not to get one for myself, though i was sorely tempted previously. Haha. The long length might mean that you need to have a steadier hand when using though. That I can say for sure, Anyone has reviews?

I also have seen another dupe at Daiso. It's a metal comb with widely spaced tines, but it does a decent job. At $2 a pop you cant go wrong right. Additionally, it folds in, which makes it optimal for travel! The Tweezerman has a travel friendly folding in option too but I havent gotten that. yet. haha Also, Ive noticed this range of beauty tools at daiso, and own a couple of them, and they are really nice to use! However, I dont have a picture for you guys at the moment. Nonetheless this product should be pretty hard to miss!

There you have it! My two favourite lash products of all time! =) Try them if you can! Especially for those like me, who have SHORT STUBBY LASHES!

Yep this is the updated brush post. Since the last post ive accumulated a number of other brushes. heh.

Since ive got so many brushes now, ive also gotten around to making myself a good brush holder, so i dont have to grope into a single cup to find the brush i need. I like to be able to see all the brushes i have before deciding which one to use!

Yep so this is my diy brush holder. looks pretty nifty huh. Basically it's a big box file from popular, and i use toilet rolls wrapped in mahjong paper to make the stands. Best part? because it's a box file, i can close the lid on the whole thing after use so that it doesnt gather dust! wala!

Yep while im at it, here's the little update on my brush collection as of now..

My fan brushes

Yep i'd previously gotten the deluxe italian badger fan brush from coastal scents, but after realising that it's good only for sweeping away eyeshadow spills on cheeks, i wanted another one which would do a better job at applying finishing powders. So i got the large italian badger kurobuki fan brush. (the large fan brush is on the top)
It's real smooth, and does a great job with light bronzers, finishing veils etc. In case you havent noticed yet, i happen to be a huge fan of italian badger brushes. Ok so they dont exactly smell great, but the texture of the hairs give me just enough powder pickup! I love!

My NEW eye brushes

Yep of course while i was at it ive collected some new eye brushes as well. Now among these what you dont see is my new e/s brush from daiso. a close cousin of the previous one i featured in my blog, this one is almost like a mac 219 pencil brush. I'll see when i remember to take pix and upload. haha. its so good i bought two!

so anyway onto the brushes you see here. from left to right: fine eyeliner brush, fine angled eyeliner brush, italian badger round crease brush, italian badger blender brush, elf eyeshadow brush, elf blending brush (which i modified for my use) coastal scents eye crease brush, mac 223 synthetic blending brush. Opposite the row, is, from left to right, my mac 239SE and 219SE brushes.

Now the first two brushes are actually paintbrushes. I think ive mentioned before. What i did to get an angled liner brush, was simply to grab a pair of pliers, and bend the tip. TAA DAA. an angled liner brush that costs you like $1 from popular. and the synthetic hairs make it fabulous for gel liners!

next are the two new italian badger eye brushes ive got. the round crease brush is a MUST HAVE. it packs on colour and blends it really well. The blending brush is secondary, for blending colours of course, but this offers a more subtle blending than the round crease. Note that the round crease is again very similar to the mac 219. As you can see, im quite addicted to that type of eyeshadow brush haha,

Next up are the two elf brushes. the elf eyeshadow brush is actually denser and softer than mac's 239 brush. what a surprise. haha. however, if you have teeny eyes like me, you'll prefer the mac 239 cos it doesnt deposit a huge splotch of colour on your eyelid. hoho.

The other elf brush is actually the elf blending eye brush. However, what i did was to chop off the tips of the hairs on the round dome head, to make a flat surface. sort of like a flat buffer brush for the eye. WHY this seemingly insane thing to do? Well, for the longest time i wanted to get a flat eye buffer brush aka the one bare essentials sells i think. but yeah troublesome to get my hands on one, and coastal scents doesnt have one. so. DIY. I must say trimming the hairs to become completely flat wasnt easy, but i got there in the end. So this brush is used to actually BUFF colour into my eyelid. this gives me a very long lasting swatch of colour on my lid, as buffing the colour on helps it to stay longer, instead of just slapping it onto the surface of the lid.

next up is a crease brush, considerably larger than the italian badger one. This one is very similar to the mac 224, and is from coastal scents. Ive desisted at getting the sable one advertised on the site as "similar to mac 223" as i find that sable brushes are too soft to do actually blending/packing on colour. This one does the job pretty well. I also like that its pointy at the tip, so that the blending is more precise.

finally i have the mac 223 synthetic blender brush. I use this mainly for my paintpots and primer application when i want a very thin coat. the long hairs mean that the application is mostly light, and the synthetic hairs make it suitable for applying cream/liquid products. =)

Haha i figured it's about time i updated

now THIS -points above- is the current state of my mac collection. quite an expansion from a few months back huh. i now have enough pigments to build me a tower! woohoo!

the little palette you see is where i have all my pressed pigments. bwahaha. nice stuff eh. I got it from coastal scents awhile back but havent gotten around to pressing pigments until very recently. Yes im officially hooked on pressing pigments! why? follow the cut to find out!

heh. yes i love pressing pigments, because:

a) it's fun. haha
b) it's a heck lot easier taking an e/s pan out with you than a jar of pigment
c) im perpetually paranoid i'll spill them. i AM a klutz!
d) the colour doesnt change anyway.

the colours you see are, from top to bottom: copperized pigment, club, cloudburst and freshwater. i love freshwater cos it's such a bright happy blue shade!

on top of that, i had to go get the two fafi quads, and then dequaded them so that i can use em to bring my shadows out with me!

of all the above, i only like howzat, hey and maybe bold as gold. im really iffy on the others and MAY sell em later. vanilla feels like velvet when swatching, but somehow looks chalky on my skin. nonetheless so many people rave about vanilla i feel like keeping it. just because. lol. who knows i may learn to love it. right now i just love swatching it. pink venus and you're fresh aint half bad, but they're not colours i HAVE to have. haha like mac humid eyeshadow. now if there was ever a knockout green, that has gotta be it. i bought it already. waiting for it to come in from the states so i can swatch for ya'll! haha

hmm what else.

oh yes you see that little stack of mac eyeshadows in boxes? those are the ones i cant bear to open yet. lol. among them is blue storm. that's a seriously gorgeous colour man! hoho. yep. that's about all for now. till my next procrastinated update, enjoy the makeup porn!!

alrighty as you can see, i have not been updating my journal. why you may ask? Well procrastination and laziness are two good answers. haha

So what's been going on?

a) i went for my HK trip and came back with a shitload of beauty products
b) i went and got myself addicted to MAC (argh) and hauled quite a bit)
c) I went and reorganized my dresser and realized i have a shitload of stuff i dont use
d) i went to buy alcohol to press my pigments and am now addicted to pressing makeup
e) i went and spent so much $$ im now gonna have a sale to raise some $$

yeap that's about the sum of things. Now what im gonna do is start posting separate posts starting from part e. hoho.

Haul central

Two mini hauls. One came back from the UK with my girlfriend about two weeks ago. haha. The other just came in from vpost!

SOOOO what did i get?

THE UK HAUL

Haha here's what i got.

First up: two bottles of clinique clarifying lotion. Okay i seriously love this stuff. Really sweeps away the surface dirt, and leaves my skin feeling tingly and squeaky clean. Keeps the annoying blackheads away! I got one bottle of clarifying lotion 2 and one bottle of clarifying lotion 3. The no 3 is stronger, so i use it at night, and either my vichy toner or no 2 in the day =)

Next, some nice body shop perfume. hahaha. moonflower, whitemusk, strawberry, and a white musk deoderant roll on. Been using the roll on for these last two weeks alot. it's anti-perspirant properties really work well! and it smells nice too! Too bad they dont have this in SG i think. bleah.

I also got me a whole bunch of loreal stuff: two sets of microdermabrasion. One for face, and one for body. These really work for me. The face one helps to refine the skin and over prolonged usage, lightens scars really well. The body one is fantastic for nasty scars, and used as a foot scrub, really helps to get rid of calluses which come from too much strutting around in high heels. hohoho. The one for body isnt available here. The diff btwn the both is that the microdermabrasion for body features larger crystals. So the two arent really interchangeable. Am selling samples for this. Ask me if you're interested!

Another buy was one bottle of loreal sebo pro shampoo, to be used once a week for my oily scalp. The upside is that my scalp feels really fresh the downside is that it will also tend to dry out my hair. To counteract that i use my fave loreal spray on repair conditioner for extremely damaged hair (my hair is not lah. but this spray really works wonders!)

Along with the loreal shampoo, i'd gotten a tub of loreal's techni art motion gelee styling product for movement and gloss. Works for long hair. It helps to bring out the nice layers in my hair so that the style looks natural but neat. It's a bright greenish creamy textured wax product, which works fantastically with a quick blow dry to set it. LOVE LOVE this. Am also selling samples for this =)

Makeup wise i only got two products. One is a lancome juicy tubes in shade one. A nice very nudey pink. Looked darker in the ebay pix, but ah well. Am not sure whether i'd use it so i may consider selling. Im totally a bright colours kinda girl sheer and nudey aint really my thing =(. Make me an offer if you're interested!

The other makeup product i got is a pot of gel eyeliner by the brand Go! cosmetics. They're quite famous in the UK. Kinda like the UK equivalent of NYX really. I am so loving this black gel eyeliner. It goes on really really smoothly. Comparable to mac fluidline in terms of texture, but takes slightly longer to dry so you do have a bit more of a time margin to brush on the line perfectly. Once dried it just stays and stays. I dont usually apply anything on my lower lash line cos it tends to smudge like crazy, but this doesnt! Best part, this eyeliner comes in myriad shades ranging from black to metallic gold! I am so getting more shipped to my friend when she goes back there. Hahah i love shopping and i have fabulous friends who dont mind hauling back my stuff for me -beams in delight- (thanks loads rosh!!!!mwa!)

Now onto haul no 2

Quite a mini haul for makeup this time, cos most of the other stuff i received was apparel including a big box of lasenza bras which are oh soo pretty, and 4 huge bags of reeses for my spree! (more on that later)

First up, im so excited about my mac pigments! first time im getting the fullsize jar, and after admiring them i realise that OH GOSH i'll never be able to finish them! not unless i start eating the stuff. haha. so i'll be selling samples. $4.50 each mailed =) for a generous 1/4 tsp.

The colours are: Deep blue green, rushmetal and old gold (my ultimate fave)

Here are the swatches:

with flash and without flash. the mac pigment swatches are below the browney line. Colours didnt turn out too accurate on my cam though. Now about the rest of the swatches.

The gold/bronze swatch above the line was a foiled/eyeliner version of the rushmetal pigment. I'd also purchased this product called smashbox offset, which is a clear liquiey gel textured product meant to be used to convert your powder shadows to instant indelible gel eyeliner. As you can see, not only does it bring out the colour better, it survived me washing a round of dishes too! hahaha. i likey! It's a pretty small bottle though so im not sure if i should sell samples. However a little goes a long long way. The technique is to dip the tip of my eyeliner brush in the gel then mix it on the back of my hand with some pigment/loose shadow. and wallah! instant gel eyeliner. Doesnt really work for black though, cos i gotta get alot of black shadow to make it really deep dark black. I'll stick to store bought stuff for that!

The browney line you see is actually a jewel toned deep purple with a slight shimmer. The product is actually a loreal eye smoker liner and shadow in divine wine. Lovely colour and good for the lazy days where i just wanna draw on a swipe on my upper lids so that my eyes dont look too puny. Love this product too cos it glides on soo easily, yet stays on for the whole day! It's kinda like the NYX jumbo pencils i think. Ive got a spare. Have yet to decide whether i should be greedy and keep it, or sell it and buy more shades. hahaha!

The final swatch is the almost nudey toned swatch. That's my loreal hip paint in witty 813.

love my shocking orange fingernails too btw. It makes for a good almost indelible base for my e/s or on it's own. You cant really see it in the pic, but it's a bronze toned nude base with slight shimmer. what shocked me about this product, was how TINY it was. I was expecting a larger tube (it looked so much larger in the pix haha) Ah wells. Samples are available for those interested cos i dont think i'll be using this much. It's too dark for my skintone for an all over base, so i'll have to brush it on carefully like a cream shadow. I shall hunt for a lighter tone. hoho.

back to the haul pix. There are other items in the pic. I got a tube of burts bees lipbalm. for me, this is THE BEST lipbalm ever. soo uber moisturizing, doesnt wear off easily, has a cool minty feel, smells great yadayada...... what's not to like? haha

Next up is the smashbox photo finish primer, which i helped deniseloo to buy. She'll be the one reviewing it i guess =)

the tube at the right of the picture is the loreal decrease eyeshadow based, said by some to be the dupe of udpp. Well, i wouldnt know if it's a good dupe cos i havent tried udpp. However, i have tried the loreal hip primer and this works better cos it adds just the lightest bit of brightness to the eyearea, and really does not crease. The loreal hip primer is colourless. hur.

Finally the two pink boxes are actually gwp sized clinique blended transparency face powder. The packaging is TOO CUTE. that's why i bought it mainly. hahaha it's a small travel sized powder box with attractive pink floral patterns, which opens to reveal a teeny powder puff, over the powder. It's a loose powder btw. So how does the whole thing not get messed up? the loose powder is contained below a plastic layer. So the trick is to make a few small holes in the plastic and wallah. a pretty package for touchups that you'll have no qualms pulling out of your bag on the train or something! haha. Im liking this for the novelty factor. Havent tried the powder yet though. It's too cute! cant stand it. Will either sell/give away the spare. see first. haha

And of course there is the Reeses..

enough chocolate to make a girl go delirious. but they dont all belong to me. I organized a reeses spree so some of them belong to the participants. What you see in the pic are: the original reeses, the reeses caramel pb cups in snacksize, and the latest addition, dark chocolate reeses medallions. Im telling you, they should totally make the dark chocolate a permanent product. It is orgasmically good. deep dark choc with sweet-salty peanut butter. Ive eaten more of these than i dare to admit haha. Have some extras to sell so lemme know if you're interested as well!

Yeap. thus ends the haul rant. IM SO HAPPY WITH ALL MY NEW PRODUCTS. MWAHAHAHAHA!

bad lighting but you can see the gorgeous silver and gold heels on the top shelf. Yeah my friend helped me bring the silver heels back from the uk too! And guess what, though they're not louboutins, they have RED SOLES! hohoho. sweet. oh and the shoe rack holds a total of 20 pairs. It's a clever design cos if i turn it around (it has wheels on the bottom) you'll see my sandal style high heels cleverly hidden behine! wahahahahah but i prefer to have the pumps facing out. It's prettier that way!

Hi All!

As you may have noted, my journal here died a mini death of late cos i was too lazy/too busy/too tired/too stress/too whatever to update it.

BUT im back and here's the update on my makeup brush collection =)

Alrighty first up, there's my collection of italian badger brushes. Okay just 4. haha. not totally a set. yet.
They are, from left to right,
a) large powder dome brush
b) large buffer brush (looks teeny next to the powder dome though)
c) angled blush/contouring brush
d) fan brush

Okay for those who have yet to try italian badger brushes the first and most important thing i must tell you is: it REALLY smells like a bloody badger. Im not joking. Well it CAME from a badger. duh. So if you're the type that's very finicky about smells, perhaps this isnt the best type of brush for you. I personally dont favour the smell much either! However, the terrific performance of the brush more than makes up for it.

Function wise, the italian badger, is for me, the perfect brush to use for my foundations and blushers. This is because while the hairs are very soft, its texture is also coarse enough to pickup a goodly amount of product/colour. Im not very much a fan of sable, unless for eyeshadow blending brushes (see below) While softer and smoother than that of italian badger hair, the very smoothness of sable prevents it from picking up products, especially pressed products like blusher, very well. For mineral foundations etc, this is true too. Having used both sable and italian badger powder brushes, Ive become a firm fan of the italian badger brushes. The pickup is good, the distribution is nice and even, and the base of each strand of hair is quite firm, allowing even huge brushes like the powder dome to be used for blending.

Now where to buy these babies? I got the buffer brush and fan brush off Coastal Scents for USD$11.95 and $3.59 respectively. However, the company does not carry the other two brushes in their italian badger range. I got these two off an ebay supplier for about USD$10 shipped for both. Quite a deal huh! I dont think she's still selling though i could check for you. The brushes i got off ebay are ostensibly from the same manufacturer as the ones on Coastal Scents. They even have the same format of numbering! hiaks.

Onto the brushes' individual functions:

a) large powder dome brush

This baby is good for finishing powders as it gives a very thin but even coverage that is buildable. Mostly i use this for dusting on my ponds magic powder before and after my mineral foundation. The trick is to put a teensy scoop of the powder onto a jar cap, and then swirl the brush around gently, before using a sweeping motion across your whole face. This is also good for applying highlighter to your chest area to contour and bring out your cleavage. wahaha. I do sometimes use this on days where Im out on casual errands, and want just a very light coverage of foundation.

b) large buffer brush

this is just fab for mineral foundation. With a firm buffing motion, I can get a very smooth even but substantial coverage using my mineral foundation. This buffs the powder into your skin instead of having the makeup just sit on your skin, thus avoiding a powdery look. Also, for an even LESS powdery look, you can use your mineral makeup for wet application, by dampening your brush first. I like to use my toner for this function, though the alcohol may harm the bristles of the brush. But then again, i dont often use wet application anyway.

c) angled blush/contouring brush

this is just fab. For getting blusher and contouring powder, and highlighter precisely where you need it. Works much better than a fluff brush. The badger hair also picks up just the right amount of colour everytime! However if you're not that into contouring and stuff, you could survive without this item. I love it though!

d) fan brush

another item you could survive without as it is not really an essential. However, this brush is a handy tool during eyeshadow application. As i use lots of mineral eyeshadows, the powder grains tend to fall off my eyeshadow brush onto my cheeks. Now if i brushed that away with my fingers, it would leave a streak of colour oddly running across my face. Thats where the fan brush comes in. It can easily brush away the offending bits without shifting the rest of your makeup that's underneath. Okay sounds like a trivial function for a brush right? Just you wait till you're doing a smokey eye with black!! haha Another function of this brush, is that it can be used to smoothen out the final finish on your makeup. Personally i use it along with a tinge of silk naturals finish powder to seal in my makeup (that powder is practically waterproof!) on days i want longer lasting coverage. It also very nicely brushes off any remaining excess on my face, giving me a foundation which looks like my natural skin sans flaws! I love this brush too!

Alrighty. those were the italian badger brushes. Let's move on to my other brushes now shall we? hoho

There you go. the rest of the brushes which i use regularly. The rest are in storage elsewhere. hohoho.

a) The Body Shop foundation brush
b) sable fluff highlighting brush
c) two artist super fine eyeliner brushes (that's why you can barely see em)
d) elf smudge eye sponge
e) chisle angle fluff brush from Coastal Scents
f) taklon and sable blend concealer brush
g) Shu uemura lip brush 6N
h) Daiso sable/synthetic blending brush
i) artist square brush

Alrighty these are mostly my eyeshadow/liner brushes save for the first two.

a) the body shop foundation brush

This used to be my fave till the italian badgers came along. And then i realised how this was just making the products sit on my skin like a mask. Now i use it for the express purpose of applying my concealer for undereye circles and blending in concealer around spots. hoho.

b) This fluff brush is used for applying my illuminating powders along my brow bone over my e/s, or along my temples. It's so super soft i cant really use it for much else anyway.

c) These are really good brushes for gel/creme eyeliners. Ironically, they arent even makeup brushes! I got these from the brush section of POPULAR. yeap. you read me right. Haha they're artist brushes, made of some super smooth synthetic blend. This means that your liner wont stain the bristles, and the bristles are firm enough to deliver a very neat line. I've two, one for using with my gel/creme liners, one for using powders to line my lash line for a softer (but neat) look. Get em! they're cheap and good! haha

d) elf smudge eye sponge.
This is really great for creating a casual smokey look. I simply use the sponge to smudge a line above my upper lash line, then gently blend outwards. It's also great for setting cream liner on my upper lash line, but daubing on a goodly amount of powder and firmly pressing it into the layer of liner to set.

e) chisle angle fluff brush from coastal scents

I love love this brush. good for all over application of e/s, or blending outwards from the inner corner of the eye. The material is soft, though it doesnt really pickup colour fantastically. Gotta go over a few times to pack the colours onto my lid!

f) taklon concealer brush.

Okay i occasionally use this for applying concealer onto spots and old acne scars, but it's main function, is to apply cream bases onto my eyelid to prep them for e/s application. It works fantastically with the dior radiant base denise gave me (heh) because the synthetic bristles dont absorb the makeup. It also delivers a buildable but even layer of product without stretching my eyelid

g) Shu uemura lip brush

Well i dont use this on my lips for sure! Mainly cos I love colours so much that my eyes are usually dramatically done, so in order to avoid looking like a drag queen, i leave my lips nude. With just a swipe of lipgloss. Instead i use this brush when i want to finish up my e/s with a very thin layer of shimmer. basically i pickup my mac pigment in old gold or melon, and paint on a super fine layer of the stuff, such that i get an all over shimmer without deep colour payoff which would ruin all my blending before that. Its slim shape suits this function, as i can very precisely place the shimmer where i want it, instead of all over like a disco ball.

h) daiso blending brush

Ive totally gotta rave about this brush. It's only $2, but the function is worth waaay more. Made of a blend that feels like part sable and part synthetic, the material and shape of the brush makes it PERFECT for blending e/s. Colour pickup is also fab. Most importantly it is a travel brush. im serious! just yank off the back end and it becomes a ready cap for the brush, and then you're ready to roll! They have a whole range from this brand in daiso, but i only got this one as it's the only one i need. haha. must cut down on shopping ya know!

i) finally my other artist brush, also from popular.

I use this for blending shadows along my lashline as it is thin and wide, allowing precise blending especially across the lower lashline. When applying mascara, this also works great to pick out the clumpy bits. The spoolie doesnt really work well for that function.

SOOOO there you have it! My makeup brush collection and what i use em for. Am currently waiting for a dupe of the MAC 187 to arrive from the US. I really wanna try it out with liquid foundations and bb cream! will update again after. =) seeya
